ABOUT THE CAMP
The Lions Beartooth Mountain Youth Camp is located 10.5 miles south of Red Lodge on the Lake Fork of Rock Creek. Drive 10 miles south from the Beartooth District Forest Service office on highway 212 then turn right on Lake Fork Road (after the highway crosses Rock Creek) and continue about another half mile to the camp entrance.
The Lions Beartooth Mountain Youth Camp was founded in 1927 by the Billings Lions Club and remains our major activity. The Camp was started by Lions to provide camping experiences for kids by providing facilities to other non-profit groups that cannot afford their own. In addition, Lions have sponsored various youth camps at the Red Lodge facility - the best known is the Charles Campbell Camp for handicapped youth.
The Beartooth Camp is considered a "primitive" camp - sleeping cabins have no heat and bath facilities are centrally located. Today, 22 buildings in a secluded setting near the Beartooth Wilderness Area and the Beartooth Pass Scenic Byway serve groups of up to 130 people.
For the summer months of June through August of each year, the entire camp is available for organizations that serve youth. Other groups such as family reunions are possible if the schedule permits. These months are generally contracted a year in advance.
Winter season use of Memorial Hall (serving 18 people) is available from September to May. The month of May is generally reserved for maintenance by the Billings Lions.
